Special Dances are dances held by a club, usually at a date, time, and possibly location, that is different than when their regular dance is scheduled. In these cases, they may bring in a Guest Caller Or Cuer for the dance...usually one with regional or national name recognition.
In the past, I had purposely NOT listed specials on the ASSDF website, to give people an incentive to subscribe to The Modern Square... and these Special Dances had been listed toward the back of each issue, at basically no cost to the club. Now, as a THANK YOU to clubs who place an ad in The Modern Square, I'm placing these dances on this page. Note that just ''listing'' your Special Dance in the Special Dances section of The Modern Square...without a separate ad purchase...does not qualify the ad for a listing.
The current price for U.S. Mail First Class Postage is 44 cents...and it's my understanding that while the cost of first class postage apparently will not increase for 2010...that may not be the case in future years. Combine that with the cost of an envelope, making copies of a flier for your dance, and sending it to each of the clubs listed in the ASSDF Clubs listing (currently around 25), you're looking at the price of a half page ad (prices are available here).
With the purchase of an ad, everyone who subscribes to The Modern Square will see a copy of an ad in the issue...plus, it will be placed on this page. That also benefits dancers from outside the local club area...if not Arkansas itself...who may be in your area the night of your dance...as the dance will be listed on the website. This ultimately benefits both the club dance, and the ASSDF.
Once a dance is listed, it will include the day, date, time, location, club sponsor, caller and/or cuer, admission fee, contact, and any other applicable information...such as a Teacup Auction.
Also, please check with the contact listed below before traveling to a clubs special dance, to be sure that it is still scheduled. This page was last updated Feb. 27, 2010.
