Special Dances are dances held by a club, usually at a date, time, and
possibly location, that is different than when their regular dance is scheduled. In these cases, they may bring in a
Guest Caller Or Cuer for the dance...usually one with regional or national name recognition.
Benefit Dancers are held by a club to help a club member or a family with medical expenses, or to recover from a
disaster, such as a fire, flood, tornado, etc. Also, some clubs do Christmas Benefits for the
Toys For Tots campaign.
Dances listed, include the day, date, time, location, club sponsor, caller and/or cuer, admission fee, contact, and
any other applicable information...such as a Teacup Auction. If information such as a caller/cuer, time, location, etc.
is missing from the information, it can NOT be listed here.
Note that if the dance listing is WRONG in The Modern Square, it is
WRONG here. Please check with the contact person listed to verify the date(s), time(s), etc. Also, unless otherwise
noted, Proper Square Dance Attire is REQUIRED.

at the address found here. The website can usually be updated within 24 hours
after receipt, while data for The Modern Square must be in by certain
deadlines.

Specials And Benefit Dances
These are special and benefit dances, arranged in chronlogical order, both inside Arkansas, and in states surrounding
Arkansas...as well as the National Square Dance Convention, the Single Square Dancers USA Labor Day Dance-A-Rama,
and the Fall Festival, among others.
Please check with the contacts or websites listed before traveling to the dance for more information, or for any last
minute updates, changes, or cancellations...as there may be deadlines for festival and hotel registrations, tours, etc.
Since these are special dances, Proper Square Dance Attire is
required for the dance or event. Subscription Dances, where you can sign up for subscriptions to
The Modern Square will be noted below as well.

Also, on the flier, it notes a PLUS LEVEL DANCE. I do not know if this means that it will be Plus Level ONLY
(if so, it will shut out those dancing at Basic or Mainstream level)...or if it'll be ''Mainstream with announced Plus''.
I am trying to get confirmation on this, and will update these comments as soon as possible. From a personal standpoint, you can
have a good dance with just Mainstream calls...but ONLY if it is a DBD (Dance By Definition) dance, and the
dancers LISTEN to the directions of the caller. To me, a dance with just the ''simple vanilla formations'' is boring. But,
callers like Tony Oxendine can make dancers do things that they never thought possible...such as calling higher level moves by
their definition and not their name. Plus, if you just dance Basic and Mainstream, you're just ''scratching the surface'' to all
the fun that square dancing has to offer.
